Hello and welcome to The Honest Plate. Last time I blogged I had just one four legged child, Lily the Goldendoodle. Since then we’ve grown our family by three small humans. My oldest son is somehow already 5 and in kindergarten. My daughters are 3, going on 16, and 10 months old. Life is nonstop crazy and I can’t seem to keep our house clean, but it’s filled with so much love. I no longer spend hours in the kitchen creating recipes. There are more important things to do, like play baseball with my son, Nixon, play horses with my daughter Stella or be a human jungle gym for my youngest daughter, Gigi. My creative process has shifted and has become more efficient. These days, I write down recipe ideas in my notebook or random pieces of paper towels, whichever is closer to me when the idea strikes, and execute it as quickly as possible during nap time. This blog really should be called naptime meals, because when the girls are napping and Nixon is at school, I head straight to the kitchen and start cooking. And if I’m not cooking during naptime I most likely have a little sous chef helping me. My three year old, Stella, loves to “help me make”. She usually eats half the ingredients, especially if it involves feta cheese or blueberries, starts licking the bowl before I’ve emptied it and her knife skills are questionable. Stella isn’t the most efficient sous chef and probably won’t find her way in a professional kitchen later in life, pretty sure last time I checked they don’t hire chefs who ask to lick the bowl, but she keeps me company and I love including her in creating meals for our family.
Although our life may look a little different than it did five years ago, my philosophy on food has remained the same. I believe in good food made with real ingredients, food that nourishes you from the inside out and food that tastes delicious. Food is one of life’s greatest pleasures and should be enjoyed to the fullest. Thanks for visiting The Honest Plate. Stay awhile and enjoy the recipes.
